Taiwan's Azure Dragon Waterfall
The Azure Dragon Waterfall is a waterfall located in the mountainous region of central Taiwan. It sits within the territory of Da'an Village, Zhushan Township, Nantou County, and falls under the jurisdiction of the Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area. Along with attractions such as Songlong Rock, Heaven and Earth Eye, JuYing Village, Shanlinxi Lake, and the Giant Taiwan Azalea Forest, it forms the renowned Ten Scenic Spots of Shanlinxi.
The Azure Dragon Waterfall is part of the Qingshui River system. Its waters are fed by Wusongkeng Mountain and Luku Mountain, flowing into Jiacaoliao Creek. Due to the difference in strength between the geological layers of Dawo Sandstone and Shiliufen Shale, differential erosion has occurred in the riverbed of Jiacaoliao Creek. Coupled with constant water flow, this eventually created the spectacular waterfall landscape of the Azure Dragon Waterfall. Starting from the Azure Dragon Waterfall and heading upstream into the Shanlinxi area, the water flow becomes gentler, allowing direct access to the famous Songlong Rock Waterfall. Downstream from the Azure Dragon Waterfall lies the Taiji Canyon, where the riverbed attracts numerous travelers to admire the waterfall and canyon views, making it one of the most popular scenic spots in the area.
