Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area

The Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area is located at the southeastern end of Da’an Village, Zhushan Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. It lies on a small river valley plain in the upper reaches of Jiacheauo Stream and is a well-known scenic spot in central Taiwan. It is famed for its “Ten Scenic Spots of Shanlinxi,” “Nine Major Hiking Trails,” and rich animal and plant ecological landscapes, attracting large numbers of tourists every year for spring outings, flower viewing, and sightseeing.

Situated in Zhushan Township, Nantou County, Shanlinxi sits at an altitude of 1,600 to 1,800 meters. As a result, the Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area has become known among Taiwanese people as the homeland of peonies and tulips. During the peak blooming season in April, the area is always crowded with flower enthusiasts. Not only are holiday accommodations fully booked, but the continuous flow of vehicles also leads to long traffic lines on the highways. Additionally, the wisteria flowers in the Shanlinxi Forest Recreation Area are another highlight. Along the Wisteria Flower Path in the Medicinal Herb Garden, silver wisteria and hydrangeas reach full bloom at the end of April, creating breathtaking scenes with spring blossoms and fresh greenery.

Shanlinxi is not only a prime destination for spring flowers, but the area’s mountain and water scenery is also stunning. The stream landscapes and waterfalls are particularly magnificent, with grand sights such as Songlong Rock and the Azure Dragon Waterfall being highly favored by visitors from all over.
