Aowanda Forest Recreation Area

Aowanda Forest Recreation Area is located on the north bank of the middle reaches of the WanDa River in A’Ai Village, Ren’ai Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. It is one of the most well-known maple-viewing spots in all of Taiwan and is often referred to as the “Hometown of Maple Leaves.” The park covers a total area of 2,787 hectares, with elevations ranging from 1,100 to 2,600 meters. The area features a distinct canyon terrain, and during the autumn and winter foliage season, it attracts visitors from around the world who come to admire the red leaves.

Aowanda Forest Recreation Area can be divided into four main scenic areas: the Waterfall Area, Forest Park, Maple Forest Area, and Pine Forest Area. Among these, the Maple Forest Area is the most representative and the most beloved by visitors. The maple trees here are part of a natural, pristine forest covering approximately 8 hectares. A 2,425-meter-long maple forest trail draws many visitors to linger in this area, where the stunning autumn foliage in shades of red is truly unforgettable. In addition, the Pine Forest Area is also a highlight of Aowanda Forest Recreation Area. This area not only features towering ancient pine trees with a long history but also the cork oak, which has uniquely textured bark. The 2,885-meter-long trail in this section is the longest in the entire forest park. The special scenery and rich natural ecology here leave visitors feeling refreshed and enchanted.
