Hualien Hakka Cultural Museum

The Hualien Hakka Cultural Museum is located in Hualien Park in the town of Hualien, central Hualien County, Taiwan. It is the first Hakka cultural museum in eastern Taiwan. Though not large in size, the museum boasts a rich collection, allowing visitors to experience the diverse culture of the Hakka people in eastern Taiwan in this compact and exquisitely designed venue.

The Hualien Hakka Cultural Museum has two floors. The first floor mainly introduces the Hakka people’s land reclamation records, folk beliefs, transportation, daily utensils, and more. The second floor showcases traditional Hakka clothing, as well as early farming tools used by the Hakka, such as wind-powered rice mills, Yizi rakes, and mortars. Notably, all these agricultural tools were donated voluntarily by local residents. In addition, displays on the making of Hakka rice dishes and vegetable buns, along with the cultivation of the “three treasures of Hakka agriculture”—rice, corn, and sweet potatoes—are also impressive exhibits.

The Hualien Hakka Cultural Museum houses comprehensive historical materials, enabling visitors to gain a concrete and detailed understanding of the development and migration history of the Hakka community in Hualien Town. Moreover, since the museum is situated within Hualien Park, after absorbing a wealth of knowledge, visitors can also take a stroll in the park to relax, enjoying the perfect combination of learning and leisure.
