Hualien Station is the largest railway hub in Hualien and Taitung regions. With a construction cost of NT$900 million over five years, the new station not only significantly increases platform space but also integrates architecture with art. The design features a split-level entrance and exit system, while the building’s concept—a “garden station with a welcoming umbrella”—reflects the relationship between mountains and sea, as well as climate and industry, harmonizing the station with the urban environment.

The fern garden on the side of the station reflects the mountain scenery behind Hualien Station. Combined with a misting design, it improves the microclimate of the plaza and allows visitors to feel Hualien’s lush forest atmosphere as soon as they exit the station. In front of the architect-designed canopy, a golden needle flower garden creates a seasonal scene that complements Hualien’s summer tourism season with appropriate floral arrangements.

On the main wall along the primary passenger route, with the permission of Taiwanese art master Lin Xingyue, his artwork “Bless Hualien” has been recreated using kiln-fired tiles. This masterpiece captures the local spirit and landscape of Hualien and Taitung, now displayed at Hualien Station for all visitors to experience the land’s warmth and vibrant energy.
The free connecting corridor between the front and rear stations allows passengers to pass through without needing a platform ticket, offering a great spot to watch fighter jets land.
