Bai Bao Stream

Bai Bao Stream originates from the southern foothills of Muguashan and is a tributary of the Hualien River in Taiwan. It is located in Chinan Village, Shoufeng Township, Hualien County, and together with Laopu Stream, forms an important source of recharge water for Liyu Pond. The stream bed of Bai Bao Stream is rich in gemstones such as Toyota jade and serpentine. At the stream’s mouth, visitors can observe unique landforms such as capture bends formed by river capture. These river capture actions narrate the long-term changes and appearances of Bai Bao Stream, Laopu Stream, Wenlan Stream, and Liyu Pond, creating a highly distinctive historical landform.

The waters of Bai Bao Stream remain clear all year round and, due to being largely undisturbed, the cool stream water every summer attracts large numbers of visitors who come here to play and cool off, making it a perfect natural playground. Moreover, in the stream and on its bed, one can often spot creatures such as gobies, varicorhinus barbatulus fish, Racosta crab, and the plumbeous water redstart. In addition, Bai Bao Stream is the origin of Taiwan’s jadeite, and its stream bed is rich with stones that shimmer in green and purple. Visitors can not only enjoy splashing around in the stream bed but also try their luck at treasure hunting, picking up their favorite stones.
