As you exit Keelung Railway Station, the first thing that catches your eye is Keelung Harbor. The azure waters have been a part of the lives of Keelung residents all year round. Pausing here allows you to enjoy the charm of the harbor, watch the regular arrival of luxury passenger ships and cruise liners from around the world, and makes it an ideal spot for heart-to-heart talks and night scenery appreciation.

The construction of Keelung Harbor began during the Japanese colonial era. At that time, the work was extremely arduous, resulting in the deaths of many workers. To commemorate them, the Port Construction Martyrs Monument was erected, primarily honoring those who perished during the construction of West Pier No. 16 between 1924 and 1928.

The Port Construction Martyrs Monument is located on the hillside near Piers 3 and 4 of Keelung Harbor. It tells the story of the sweat and toil of the early pioneers who built the harbor area. Today, it seems to still stand guard over the harbor. The site of the monument is also one of the best spots to overlook Keelung Harbor.

Aside from enjoying the sea breeze at Keelung Harbor and watching the bustling scene of ferries transporting cargo ships, there are also many tourist attractions and historical sites nearby, such as Xian Dongyan (Fairy Cave Rock), Shiqiuling Fort, Shiqiuling Tunnel, Eighteen Arhats Cave, Baimi Weng Fort, and Haimen Tianxian. These historic sites can be explored during the day, while at night you can head to Keelung Miaokou Night Market to sample local delicacies like nutritious sandwiches, tempura, vermicelli soup, butter crab, oyster omelets, braised eel soup, eight-treasure glass noodles, sweet rice wine, bite-sized sausages, and marlin soup.
