The Great Buddha Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Great Buddha Temple is located atop Shoushan in Zhongzheng Park, Keelung City, and is a Buddhist tourist destination. Legend has it that Master Puguan became a nun with her mother at a young age, made a grand vow, and after searching in many places, chose the top of Zhongzheng Park. In the 56th year of the Republic of China (1967), she proposed its establishment, and in the 58th year (1969), the construction was completed. The Great Buddha Temple was finally put into use.

The entire temple complex follows the architectural style of Buddhist temples from the Tang Dynasty. It consists of four floors and houses structures such as the Mahavira Hall, Avalokitesvara Hall, Buddhist Lecture Hall, Maitreya Hall, Guanyin Hall, Colored Glaze Hall, Merit Hall, and meditation rooms—magnificent and splendid, ideal for both sightseeing and worship. In front of the temple stands a 22.5-meter-tall white statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy, which is the most iconic landmark in Keelung and was once the tallest statue in Taiwan. It was selected as the foremost of Keelung’s Eight Scenic Spots. The statue is divided into five levels with stair access, and each level features observation windows offering panoramic views of Keelung Harbor. Additionally, two massive golden lions sit on either side of the statue, exuding peace and solemnity. Around the statue, eighteen arhat sculptures are erected, each with unique expressions and poses, making them vivid and quite engaging.
