Haronggou Scenic Area

The Haronggou Unique Rocks Scenic Area is located in Saerbulaq Township, Hoboksar Mongol Autonomous County, situated 35 km in a straight line to the northwest of the county seat.

Haronggou lies within the Altai low mountain belt and is named after its dark, peculiar rocks. These are granite formations that, due to erosion and weathering by water and wind along various directional joint systems, have been sculpted into a myriad of vividly shaped rock formations resembling figures and objects. The cliffs are steep and rugged — some look like eagles bowing their heads, turtles gazing at the sky, others resemble jade rabbits racing toward the moon or golden roosters standing on one leg. The shapes are strikingly lifelike, almost leaping out at you, leaving you in awe of nature’s incredible artistry. Haronggou encapsulates the grandeur, strangeness, danger, and serenity of mountain landscapes. In the crevices of the rocks, creeping junipers with vines like woven tapestries grow, while the valley is dotted with various hardy shrubs. As you stroll through, you’ll come across ancient petroglyphs carved or painted on the rugged stones. Whether etched in color or stone, these artworks fill the surroundings with an air of mystery, wonder, and ancient history.
