Laofengkou Ecological Area is located within the Laofengkou region in the northwest of Tuoli County, 31 kilometers south of Tuoli County and on the east side of Provincial Highway 221. The Laofengkou Shelterbelt is a poplar forest planted to withstand the strong winds at Laofengkou. Since 1958, especially from the 1980s to the present, over 80,000 mu of trees have been planted. Together with the 800,000 mu of farmland and 500,000 mu of artificial grassland in the wind zone, they form a comprehensive shelterbelt system, creating the Laofengkou Ecological Area we see today. The former harsh conditions of Laofengkou—where “strong winds blew every third, sixth, and ninth day, stones were blown away by the wind, light breezes occurred daily, and yellow dust and snow swirled through the sky”—have vanished entirely.
