Nestled between mountains and sea, Keelung, known as Taiwan’s “Rainy City,” boasts rich cultural charm. Start your day at Zhèngbīn Fishing Port, located south of Hépíng Island. With its picturesque canals reminiscent of Venice, the harbor entrance exudes a strong exotic vibe. The row of colorful buildings along the shore is particularly eye-catching. Once Taiwan’s largest port during the Japanese colonial period, it played a key role in the early prosperity of Keelung’s fishing industry. In recent years, the port has actively transformed into a leisure and nostalgia-focused tourist dock, recreating the vibrancy of the fishing port in new ways.

Next, head to Báimǐwèng Fort to enjoy the sea breeze. Also known as “Dutch City,” the fort is located on the western shore of Keelung Harbor. Legend has it that both the Spanish and the Dutch built castles here. Established around the time of the Sino-French War, it is also referred to as the Dutch City Fort. With its dramatic cliffside views and the majestic chimneys of the nearby power plant, the sea breeze will instantly lift your spirits.

For lunch, enjoy a meal at a seaside restaurant. The Santorini Sea View Restaurant is located next to Keelung’s Wàimùshān Trail. With its white exterior and Mediterranean-style architecture, dining here offers beautiful ocean views and a refreshing atmosphere. The menu includes refined Western cuisine, pasta, teas, and desserts.

In the afternoon, drive up to Jiǔfèn. Its buildings are perched on the hillsides, and the maze-like paths and historical background give it a uniquely charming appeal. At sunset, sit in a teahouse, brew a pot of hot tea, and quietly watch the sun dip behind the mountains — it feels as if all your worries drift away with it. When lit up at night, Jiǔfèn Mountain Town becomes a truly enchanting sight.
