Taiwan’s version of Santorini: A colorful Greek-style architectural scene you can shoot in Kaohsiung

In Korea, you must visit the fairytale-like Gamcheon Culture Village. With its unique valley terrain, looking down from above reveals a collection of colorful, adorable, and dreamy little houses. Not visiting here is like not having been to Busan. Taiwan actually has a similar scene — reminiscent of Greece’s Santorini Island — where you can enjoy Mediterranean-style scenery at Qihou Fort in Kaohsiung too!

You’d think you were abroad filming a scene — these vibrant, fairytale-like buildings bring new life to a historic site in Kaohsiung. From Qihou Fort, looking down, you can not only take in Kaohsiung’s blue skies and ocean views, but also discover the cityscape below bathed in colorful, romantic tones. At night, there’s even a different kind of beauty with the night view, and you can see the towering 85 Sky Tower standing in the distance.

Qihou Fort is located on Qihou Mountain in Cijin District, Kaohsiung City, and is designated as a second-class historical site by the Ministry of the Interior. During the Qing Dynasty, it served as a crucial gateway controlling access to Kaohsiung Harbor. The broken walls add traces of the passage of history, and the red brick surfaces seem to whisper centuries-old stories. With its ruins-like atmosphere, it feels like traveling back a hundred years. Every corner is worth exploring in detail.
