Lin Jilu Martyrs Memorial Hall

The Lin Jilu Martyrs Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism attraction.

The Lin Jilu Martyrs Memorial Hall is located on Lin Jilu Street in the old city of Kuqa County, Xinjiang. Before the 1950s, it was the site of the county government offices. The memorial site was originally the office where Lin Jilu worked as county head. After the liberation, this former residence was well preserved. The hall was first built in 1975, covering an area of 32.5 mu. The courtyard is shaded by lush trees and covered with blooming flowers, featuring a garden nursery, rockeries and ponds, as well as an octagonal pavilion for sightseeing, leisure and rest. With its elegant and tranquil environment, it is one of Kuqa County’s garden-style units.

The memorial is divided into two parts: the “Martyr’s Deeds Exhibition Room” and the “Martyr’s Living Quarters.” The “Martyr’s Deeds Exhibition Room” covers an area of 350 square meters and includes a bust of Comrade Lin Jilu. The exhibition displays 75 photos, 6 pictures, 41 photocopies, 1 woodblock print, 2 oil paintings, 19 sets of comic strip stories, 2 sand table models, 9 physical objects, 4 types of books, 16 inscriptions by central leaders and celebrities, and 186 explanatory signs. The content is divided into several major sections: “Ambition in Youth,” “Devotion to the Revolution,” “Baptism in the Yanhe River,” “Journey to Xinjiang,” “Glimpses of Kuqa,” “Unyielding Prisoner and Struggle Behind Bars,” and “Honoring the Martyrs and Mourning Their Loss.” The memorial was established here in 1978.

The “Martyr’s Living Quarters” cover an area of 154 square meters and are surrounded by balconies on three sides, with a garden in front of the front balcony planted with various flowers and trees. The quarters consist of a front room and a back room. The front room served as a temporary meeting room and currently houses a desk, four Russian-style black-painted wooden chairs, and one Russian-style armchair with a tea table. The back room was the bedroom of Lin Jilu and his wife, with two single beds facing each other. On the west side of the bedroom is a small crib where Lin Jilu’s son, Kurbanahong (now known as Hong, a senior engineer in an aviation unit in Beijing), was born. The entire living space is simple and rustic, reflecting the hardworking and unadorned style of a Communist Party member.

The Lin Jilu Martyrs Memorial Hall is a revolutionary holy site in Xinjiang and one of the few contemporary revolutionary relic sites in the region. It serves not only as a vivid and powerful educational resource for revolutionary tradition, patriotism, and moral character among people of all ethnic groups but also, in Xinjiang, as an important tool for strengthening ethnic unity, opposing ethnic separatism, safeguarding national unity, and uniting people of all ethnicities in hard work, pioneering spirit, keeping pace with the times, and building a beautiful homeland with love for Xinjiang and Kuqa.

Lin Jilu, originally named Lin Weiliang, was born in 1916 in Dagang Village, Duhu Town, Taishan City, Guangdong Province. In 1933, while studying in Shanghai, he joined the Communist Youth League of China.

In the spring of 1934, with the approval of the Youth League organization, he went to Japan to study. In 1935, he joined the Communist Party of China and served as the secretary of the CPC Tokyo Branch.

After the July 7th Incident in 1937, Lin Jilu resolutely returned to China to join the War of Resistance Against Japan. In early October 1937, he arrived in Yan’an and entered Class 12 of the Central Party School for studies.

In February 1938, Lin Jilu was dispatched by the Party to work in Xinjiang… More details about Lin Jilu ++
