Ningji Lake

Introduction: Ningji Lake is located in Shanglaxiu Township, Yushu County, approximately 60 kilometers from Jiegu Town, Yushu County. It sits at an altitude of around 4,200 meters, covers an area of over 90 square kilometers, and has a maximum depth of about 30 meters. The lake water is highly mineralized, making it a saltwater lake, and is abundant with highland naked carp. During spring and summer, birds such as bar-headed geese, fish gulls, ruddy shelducks, whooper swans, and black-necked cranes come here to breed and raise their young.

Ningji Lake is crystal clear and azure, like a beautiful mirror embedded deep in the green mountains. It is surrounded by herds of livestock and tents, offering a highly enticing landscape. Legend has it that on the night of the full moon, magical sounds of musical instruments can be heard coming from the lake. The local people regard this lake as a sacred lake of the Green Tara goddess and hold worship ceremonies here every July and August.

Jiegu Town Streets: Jiegu Town is the seat of the prefecture and county governments, located in the eastern part of the county. It has a population of 23,000, predominantly Tibetan, accounting for 79% of the total. The town covers an area of 807.7 square kilometers and administers three neighborhood committees—Town East, Town South, and Town North—as well as eleven pastoral committees: Unity, Red Guards, Liberation, Democracy, Pioneer, Leap Forward, Victory, East Wind, Advance, Gandar, and Guoqing.
