On January 11, the 2011 "Civilian Disaster Relief Award" by Shenzhen's One Foundation was announced, with Chen Dan, leader of the Nanchong Mountain Rescue Team under the Sichuan Provincial Mountain Rescue Corps, receiving the "Action Citizen Award." Among the other 10 awardees were long-term volunteers in natural disaster relief efforts as well as ordinary citizens who stepped forward in local emergencies. Jet Li, founder and board member of the One Foundation, was present at the event and presented the awards to the winners.
On April 14, 2010, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Yushu County in the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province. Chen Dan immediately organized the Nanchong Mountain Rescue Team to rush to the disaster zone, where they worked tirelessly for seven days and nights in Yushu, Qinghai, carrying out earthquake relief operations. To strengthen the rescue team, he also recruited volunteers from six northeastern cities in Sichuan—Suining, Guang'an, Dazhou, Bazhong, and Guangyuan—to join the Nanchong Mountain Rescue Detachment, and established a psychological crisis intervention group within the mountain rescue team.
