The fertile land of Qingshui provided an ideal living environment for our ancestors. Here, they lived tenaciously and thrived. Five thousand five hundred years ago, the matriarchal kingdom—where “only the mother was known, not the father”—began to waver, leaving behind numerous village ruins. Among the more typical sites in Qingshui is the Site of Yongqing Fort.

The Site of Yongqing Fort is a primitive village site discovered within Qingshui County, dating back approximately 5,500 years. The site is located at the site of Qingshui County No. 1 Middle School (formerly National No. 10 Middle School), covering an area of about 3.5 square kilometers. The underground cultural layer is about 1–3 meters thick and contains a large number of ash pits, ash layers, kiln pits, and house foundations. It belongs to part of the Majiayao Culture – Qijia Culture. The site has yielded pottery shards, stone tools, and other production implements and daily necessities, reflecting the transitional social conditions from the late matrilineal clan commune to the early patrilineal clan commune. It is a typical representative of Qingshui’s ancient culture.
