Lugong Scenic Area

Lugong Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Lugong Scenic Area in Yuxi, Yunnan, is located 20 kilometers from the county town and 70 kilometers from the provincial capital Kunming. It lies on the picturesque western shore of Fuxian Lake. The area boasts a strong fishing village charm, is renowned for producing the precious fish species known as anti-wave fish (Kanglang fish), and features a backdrop of mountains and a front of lake, shaded by ancient trees. The region is known for its talented people and spiritual energy, historically celebrated as "a family with two imperial examination graduates, and two Hanlin scholars within a hundred steps."

The scenic area presents a beautiful tableau composed of the scenic Fuxian Lake, the Brushholder Mountain (Bijia Mountain) shaped like a pen rack, the Jade Bamboo Shoot Mountain (Yusun Mountain) resembling a golden bell, the shady ancient banyan trees, and the ancient and unique method of catching anti-wave fish using water wheels.

Since the mid-1980s when tourism development began, over 400 million yuan has been invested to construct and improve various tourism facilities. A total of 21 hotels of different grades and more than 60 guesthouses have been built, offering over 3,200 beds, essentially forming a comprehensive tourism service system integrating vacation, leisure, and conferences.

Within the Lugong Village scenic area lies the Lugong Grand Cave, located south of the village. It is rich in underground spring water, which maintains a constant temperature of around 24°C year-round and continuously flows into Fuxian Lake. During summer and autumn, the sight of using water wheels to catch schools of anti-wave fish swimming upstream is a major spectacle here.

Transportation

The Lugong Scenic Area is situated on the western shore of Fuxian Lake, 19 kilometers from Chengjiang County.

By Bus: Take a minibus from Kunming’s Southern Bus Station to Chengjiang County, which takes about 1 hour and costs around 20 yuan per person. From Chengjiang County Bus Station, take Bus No. 8 directly to the Lugong Scenic Area.

Longjie Subdistrict: Longjie Town is located in the western part of the Chengjiang Basin, by the beautiful Fuxian Lake. It borders Yousuo and Fenglu Towns to the east, Chenggong and Jinning Counties to the west, Yangzong Town to the north, and Jiangchuan County to the south. The town government is based in Longjie Village, 3 kilometers from the county town. The town administers 13 village committees, 109 natural villages, and 119 villager groups. By the end of 2002, the town had a total population of 50,156. Longjie Town covers an area of 175.3 square kilometers, making it the largest town in Chengjiang County, with 35,159 mu of arable land, including 25,101 mu of paddy fields.
