Sanchahe Wildlife Observation Station

The observation station is located not far from the highway within the Mengyang Nature Reserve. After getting off the vehicle, you need to walk several kilometers along forest paths to reach it. The area is densely forested, with birds and animals frequently spotted. In places where wild elephants and other wildlife often appear, an artificial water hole has been created. Salt blocks, favored by animals such as wild elephants and wild buffaloes, are placed in the water (the water itself also contains mirabilite).

Not far from the water hole, there is a bunker-like observation hut built in a concealed location. On a large tree on the opposite side of the water hole, there is a simple viewing slit where people can hide and observe without getting hurt. As long as you wait here for a day or two, it’s not difficult to spot wild elephants coming to drink, roll in the mud, and play. However, visitors need to be led by local guides who are familiar with the area, and should never venture in on their own.
