At the Mannu crude processing facility, we tasted what can only be described as genuinely bitter tea. As one of our companions put it: “It was so bitter I felt life wasn’t worth living.” Half an hour later, after stepping out of the temple, the bitterness finally gave way to sweetness, with a lingering sweet aftertaste that lasted another half hour — truly the kind of effect that makes your mouth water. Compared to the sweetest Baotang tea, one must say: Baotang is sweet like first love, while Mannu is bitter like a breakup.
