Pythons, lizards, pangolins, and other rare animals are a real treat for the eyes, along withethnic performances such as the love-stealing ceremony of the Aini people, the joyous Water-Splashing Festival, and song and dance shows from various ethnic groups, allowing you to deeply experience the unique charm of minority cultures.
1. Respect the lifestyles and customs of the Dai people and other ethnic minorities during your visit.
2. Items such as “Burmese jade” purchased at markets are often fake. Don’t be tempted by small bargains—buy from reputable large stores instead, and always ask for a receipt.
3. When traveling to border areas such as Myanmar, pay special attention to safety and hygiene.
4.To guard against mosquitoes and strong sunlight, an umbrella goes without saying—you’ll also need mosquito repellent, sun protection, and anti-heatstroke medicine (such as Huoxiang Zhengqi capsules).
5. Be sure to pack plenty of cool T-shirts and shorts, and it’s best to bring a light jacket as it can get a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings. Sandals are a must—you’ll basically wear them every day, while sneakers will be absolutely unbearable.
6. One last reminder: never hire a taxi to take you to attractions. Taxi drivers may offer you a low package price at first, but they’ll then force you to visit commercial tourist spots and shopping areas where they receive kickbacks of several dozen yuan. If you refuse, they may cut your itinerary short—for example, if you didn’t visit their recommended sites or shops, they’ll find excuses not to take you back to the airport, even though they won’t reduce the fare.
