Li Bing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural Government, welcomes car owners from across the country to participate in the 2014 Xishuangbanna Driving Carnival on November 1.
Addressing opinion leaders, partners, officials from the Shanghai International Automobile City, leaders of the China Communication Photography Association, and mainstream media in Shanghai, Deputy Secretary-General Li Bing stated that the stylish, international, and cross-sector positioning of the Driving Carnival can help Xishuangbanna establish its brand image as the "Southern Gateway of Self-Drive China." It will also build a cooperation platform with elite enterprises, opinion leaders, and mainstream media in the domestic and international self-drive tourism industry, achieve the transformation and upgrading of the tourism industry, and attract users to experience self-driving tours in Xishuangbanna through the national platform of the China Self-Drive Route Selection, continuously generating comprehensive benefits in economy, society, and culture. Therefore, in June 6 this year, Xishuangbanna Prefecture issued an invitation to the organizing committee to host the 2014 Driving Carnival during the launch ceremony of the 2014 annual selection held in Kunming, Yunnan. In the online public vote nationwide, Xishuangbanna ultimately won the hosting rights with a total of 13,307 votes. Bai Ling, Deputy Director, said, "Today, at the nomination route launch event, we affirm that under the guidance of the Yunnan Provincial Tourism Commission, the Xishuangbanna Prefectural Government, and the Route Selection Organizing Committee, and in close collaboration with Aijia Media, we will mobilize all local resources to make the 2014 Driving Carnival a nationally renowned automotive cultural event."
The 2014 Xishuangbanna Driving Carnival is the fourth edition and the most complete in terms of event model since its inception in 2010. On the first day of the carnival, November 1, self-driving car owners from across the country gather in Xishuangbanna to participate in a hundred-car parade in Jinghong city center as the opening ceremony. The main base of the Driving Carnival is set up at the Golden Pagoda Plaza of Gaozhuang Xishuangjing, a new tourism landmark in Jinghong. Key activities such as cool car displays, trunk markets, food experiences, RV camping, an automotive music carnival night, and a midnight drive-in cinema immerse participants in a continuous 24-hour automotive cultural and entertainment experience. On the second day, the Driving Carnival prepares three locally themed self-drive routes in Xishuangbanna for enthusiasts to deeply experience the rainforest, tea mountains, wild elephants, and Dai ethnic charm, along with two cross-border self-drive routes that traverse the Kunming–Bangkok International Highway to experience the Southeast Asian vibes of Laos and Thailand. Capture the scenic beauty on the go — the Driving Carnival will also be the most important stop for the offline fieldwork activity of the first China Self-Drive Mobile Photography Competition, officially launched on September 20. The competition will encourage mobile phone users nationwide to focus on the Driving Carnival, discover, record, and share the beauty of Xishuangbanna.
At the same time, the organizing committee will also hold a unique closed-door forum on a cruise ship, “Discussing Driving GMS (Discussing Driving along the Lancang-Mekong),” inviting 100 participants including government officials, experts, scholars, annual selection opinion leaders, partners, and key media from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, and across the country to board the ship and discuss the three major themes of self-driving trends, product marketing, and more along the Lancang River, promoting resource alignment between Xishuangbanna and the national self-driving tourism industry.
To better promote the colorful Yunnan and magical Xishuangbanna nationwide, spread Chinese automotive culture, and attract national attention and participation in the Driving Carnival, Aijia Media specially planned and organized an official roadshow fleet that departs from Anting·Shanghai International Automobile City on October 19, lasting 12 days with 12 stops along the way, covering a distance of 3,600 kilometers and crossing the Tropic of Cancer, arriving in Xishuangbanna one day before the grand opening of the Driving Carnival. The fleet heads southward, getting warmer as it goes — rising not only is the temperature along the route but also the enthusiasm sparked by spreading the concepts and actions of green driving and casual public welfare. This fleet, consisting of the smallest Smart, the greenest Tesla, the most lovable off-roaders, and the most eye-catching large-screen LED roadshow vehicle, travels along National Highway 320 and will transform into a mobile photo studio, sports hall, concert hall, cinema, living room, and more at different times and locations, bringing the beauty of Yunnan, heartwarming music, movies that capture the spirit of the open road, physical education classes that rural children yearn for, and Tesla green charging piles to people’s doorstep...
