Xishuangbanna Tropical Zoo

Xishuangbanna Tropical Zoo was established in 2005 and is located within the Ethnic Culture Park. It spans a total area of forty acres and houses over 100 animal species, including 30 types of tropical wildlife, which are beloved by local children. The Ethnic Culture Park is located one kilometer southwest of Jinghong on the banks of the Liusha River, covering an area of 667,000 square meters, including 534,000 square meters of land and 133,000 square meters of water. The entire park is divided into a southern and a northern section. Within the lush tropical gardens, there are exhibition halls dedicated to the six indigenous ethnic groups of Xishuangbanna. The park combines the region’s precious tropical flora and fauna with its vibrant ethnic culture, offering a microcosm of the beautiful and mystical Xishuangbanna. Recently, new animals have been introduced, including Arabian baboons — the zoo’s male baboon had been without a mate, so a female was brought in from Kunming Wildlife Park to pair with him. Additionally, a pair of African zebras, a pair of ring-tailed lemurs, and a male African lion have been added. With these new arrivals, the zoo now has a collection of 30 animal species.
