Attraction Introduction

The Mengle Grand Buddha Temple is situated on a mountain and primarily features Southeast Asian-style temple architecture and Buddha statues. From the mountaintop, visitors can enjoy scenic views of Jinghong City and also participate in Buddhist activities within the temple to experience Buddhist culture. Down the mountain, there are traditional Water-Splashing Festival performances that showcase local characteristics and are worth seeing.

The “Jingpiao Buddhist Temple” was built by a Dai king named Bolelong during the Dai people’s history in memory of his deceased queen, Nanshawei Bian. The queen was a lifelong devotee of Buddhism, so every festival the king would personally visit the temple to hold grand Buddhist ceremonies in her honor and to promote Buddhist teachings. According to historical records, the “Jingpiao Buddhist Temple” was originally built during the Ming Dynasty and served as one of the iconic structures symbolizing the Twelve Muangs (regions) of Southern Theravada Buddhism. It was also an important venue for Buddhist activities in the region.
