The Misty Beauty of Six Caves

The Six Caves is the first spring near the county town. Its water is sweet and refreshingly cool, and can irrigate hundreds of acres of farmland. The area is shaded by trees, enveloped in mist, and features a pavilion built to worship the Spring God—prayers for rain there are said to be very effective. The four characters “天乳真源” (literally "The True Source of Heavenly Milk") carved on a stone there were left by Wang Zhan’en, a prefectural governor of the Qing Dynasty during the Jiaqing era.

　Ancient people said: “Among all the prefectures and counties in Qianzhong, none compares to Tongren in beauty.” Much of Tongren’s charm comes from the Jinjiang River. The emerald-green and crystal-clear Jinjiang River runs horizontally from west to east through the entire region, like a jade belt wrapped around Tongren, creating numerous marvelous natural landscapes that are a feast for the eyes.
