The Crescent Moon Bridge, which opened on May 17, 2014, had already garnered much attention before its official completion and launch at the end of April. Centered around revitalizing the riverside parks on both sides of the Tamsui River in New Taipei City, a series of policies were conceived, such as cross-levee road bridges, constructing pedestrian and bicycle-only leisure landscape bridges, beautifying riverbank levees, developing the Blue Highway, and creating themed water-friendly parks. These initiatives aim to transform the riverside parks into ideal spots for citizens’ leisure and exercise, establishing New Taipei City as a “Four Waters” metropolis — managing water, connecting with water, keeping water clean, and allowing water permeation — thus achieving the vision of a “City of Great Rivers” and realizing the goal of making the Tamsui River the Manhattan of Taiwan.

The site of the Crescent Moon Bridge is located about 500 meters upstream from the Xin-Hai Bridge, connecting Banqiao’s 435 Art and Cultural Special Zone and Xinzhuang Old Street at either end. The bridge adopts an “asymmetrical double-steel tied arch design,” with a total length of 750 meters. The two spans measure 200 meters and 100 meters respectively, and the two arches stand 50 meters and 25 meters high, making it the longest double-span steel arch bridge in Taiwan. The asymmetrical double-steel tied arch structure combined with suspension cables creates a dynamic, vibrant image reminiscent of rhythmic mountains and rivers. The bridge features four uniquely themed viewing and resting platforms (including: Curve of Art, Shadow of Light, Dance of Water, and Rhythm of Wind), and the Dance of Water platform, which spans the main river channel, includes a transparent-panel skywalk to allow visitors to experience the joy of dancing water reflections. As for the nighttime light show, it follows the theme of “Rhythm of Light,” using illumination to highlight the graceful curves of the arches and projecting light onto the water’s edge to extend the overall landscape bridge’s dynamic mountain-water imagery, delivering stunning visual effects. Both motorists passing by and pedestrians out for a stroll have praised it highly. It not only beautifies the night scenery along the Dahan River but also establishes the Crescent Moon Bridge as a new landmark for Banqiao and Xinzhuang.

Banqiao: Access the Crescent Moon Bridge via the Shehou Flood Prevention Road Bridge next to the 435 Art and Cultural Special Zone.
Xinzhuang: Enter via the access ramp beside Bijiang Street (Gongguan Drainage Pumping Station) or use the levee-crossing path at No. 17 Huancheng Road to reach the outer levee road.
Follow the outer levee road to arrive at the bridge.
