The reservoir of the Third Hydropower Station was built in the 1950s. This high-gorge-and-calm-lake landscape benefits from the year-round high-quality water flow of the Tapadong Stream, resulting in shimmering blue waves and picturesque scenery, like a string of translucent emeralds embedded in the land of eastern Guizhou. Thanks to its excellent water quality, this area is also the city’s largest fishery and aquatic products base after the Jinjiang River, supplying hundreds of tons of fresh fish to the market every year. If visitors are interested, they can take a boat from the Third Reservoir Area upstream to the Second Reservoir Area, where the waterway scenery offers a unique charm. Along the way, one can admire cliffside forests and enjoy the intoxicating joy of birdsong and floral fragrance. Locals refer to the three rock cliffs seen here — upper, middle, and lower — as the "Three Forts," with the lower fort resembling a lion drinking water. The mountain terrain is rugged, with mysterious caves that are said to have been shelters for villagers fleeing bandits before liberation. In recent years, visitors exploring the area have likened it to the "Little Three Gorges" of Tongren. With the expansion of the Tapadong Scenic Area, this site will be connected to the scenic zone, becoming part of Tongren City’s southern suburban park.
