Dongshan Temple is situated on a small hill in the city center of Tongren, surrounded by cliffs on three sides and overlooking the river. It was first built in the 11th year of the Zhengde Emperor’s reign during the Ming Dynasty and is ranked as the foremost of the ten scenic spots of the Tongren area during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Subsequent structures include Chuan Shang Pavilion, the Temple of the God of Thunder, the Mahavira Hall, and the Library Tower. The mountain is covered with ancient trees, and pavilions are tucked among the foliage. By the riverside, the water is clear and shimmering, with fishing boats returning at dusk. It attracts visitors in all seasons, spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
