The Ancestral Hall of the Liu Clan in Dingjiaxi

The Ancestral Hall of the Liu Clan in Dingjiaxi is a cultural relic protection unit of Bijiang District.

The Ancestral Hall of the Liu Clan in Dingjiaxi. Located 200 meters west of Dingjiaxi Village in Wawu Township, it was first built in the 15th year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty (1810), covering an area of 500 square meters with a construction area of 290 square meters. It faces north and is situated against a mountain and beside a river. The entire building consists of a theater stage, east and west wing rooms, and a main hall, surrounded by grey-brick firewalls, with cloud-drop style horse-head walls at both ends of the main hall. The front of the west side’s wing rooms features flush gable roofs covered in grey tiles, while the courtyard in front of the theater stage is paved with square stone slabs, measuring 8.2 meters from north to south and 13 meters from east to west. The main hall is accessed by ascending an eight-shaped five-step stone stairway, and it has a width of three bays, a front corridor with railings, and exquisite patterns on the moon beams. A stele recording events from the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty is located on the rear gable wall of the two side chambers. It is a typical example of ancestral hall architecture in eastern Guizhou.

Dingjiaxi Village: Dingjiaxi Village is located at the eastern gateway of Wawu Township, 36.5 kilometers from downtown Tongren and 3 kilometers from the township government. It borders Ganjuping Village of Yaoshi Township, Mayang County, Hunan Province to the east, Goushuixi Village of Tuochong Township, Mayang County, Hunan Province to the south, Siqian Village to the west, and Huangjiazhai of Yangtou Town to the north. The village covers a total area of 20.2 square kilometers and includes ten villager groups: Tongluo’ao, Shetian, Chayuanpo, Miaochong, Luoshuitian, Yintian’ao, Dingjiaxi Groups 1, 2 and 3, and Dianbian.
