Influenced by the high elevation of Jiadong Township and its forest coverage rate, the area enjoys cool summers, with an average July temperature of just 24.3°C. In the peak of summer, it feels like being in a natural air-conditioned environment. Coupled with a long frost-free period, moderate rainfall, and significant forest regulation, the air is fresh and pleasant, earning it the reputation of a “natural oxygen bar.” The region boasts uniquely beautiful natural scenery, with hundreds or even thousands of terraced fields stacked layer upon layer, winding around the mountains. The grand and spectacular terraces create a distinctive mountainous pastoral landscape, earning the area the title “Hometown of Terraces.” Within the region lie the famous Sun Mountain, Moon Mountain, and Kongming Mountain, covered with ancient trees that block out the sky. Beneath these ancient trees lies an endless sea of September bamboo. The renowned Kongming Pond contains a historically significant drilling ground, believed to be where Zhuge Liang trained his troops during the Three Kingdoms period. The village of Xiubaii at the foot of the mountain is the hometown of the “Miao King Meng Huo.” The area is rich in ethnic customs and vibrant cultural traditions, featuring famous Miao folk songs and song-and-dance performances, the lively “Dou Nian Festival,” and the mysterious and magnificent Miao “Guzang Festival.” It is an important destination for developing ethnic tourism.

Jiadong Terraces are far less famous than their neighboring counterpart — the Jiabang Terraces. Although they are only a few dozen kilometers apart, the Jiadong Terraces are easily overlooked. Compared to Jiabang, Jiadong Terraces seem to have a more wild and rustic charm, with scenery that is equally unique but different in its own way. However, the rarely visited Jiadong Terraces bear no traces of being a “tourist area.” All the beautiful sights must be discovered on your own, which can be somewhat inconvenient but also adds to the fun of exploration.
