Located 11.5 kilometers northeast of Liping County, with the Jinrong Highway running through it from northeast to southwest, the farm enjoys convenient transportation. Its headquarters is situated in Qutuan, named symbolically after "Dongfeng" (East Wind).

The average elevation of Dongfeng Forest Farm is 500 meters, featuring a hilly terrain. The parent rock is limestone, and the soil is slightly acidic (with a pH between 5 and 6.5). The soil layer is generally around 2 meters thick. Between Qutuan and Houpo, there is an outcrop of limestone bedrock covering an area of about 2,000 mu, with numerous karst caves in the lower strata. According to surveys, there are 15 caves within the territory of Dongfeng Forest Farm, ranging from 1 to 4 kilometers in length, featuring uniquely shaped stalactites that are highly scenic. The Natural Bridge, which entered the Guinness World Records, is located within the jurisdiction of Dongfeng Forest Farm.

The average temperature here is 17–18 degrees Celsius, with a subtropical climate, a frost-free period of 280 to 300 days, and an annual average rainfall of 1,100–1,300 millimeters, making it suitable for forestry development.

Dongfeng Forest Farm is a comprehensive facility dedicated to tree species gene collection, high-quality timber breeding, forestry research, and managed timber plantation development. It undertakes various projects assigned by national forestry authorities, including "Research on the Establishment and Management Techniques of Chinese Fir Seed Orchards," "Geographical Provenance Trials of Chinese Fir," "Ecological Habit Studies and Introduction Cultivation Trials of Liriodendron chinense," "Resource Survey, Collection, and Conservation Research of Camellia Species," as well as "Research on the Introduction, Conservation of Rare Tree Species, and the Establishment of Arboretums."
