Tomb and Ancestral Hall of He Tengjiao

The Tomb and Ancestral Hall of He Tengjiao is a cultural relic protection unit of Guizhou Province.

The tomb of He Tengjiao faces the Fulu River, backs onto a sidewalk, and is close to the base of the city wall. It is oriented east-to-west, slightly north of west. The tomb is enclosed by square stone slabs, standing about 1.2 meters high and about 5 meters in diameter. Before the liberation, there was a caretaker’s residence behind the tomb and an ancestral shrine in front. Along the Fulu River side, there was an approximately 80-meter-long stone railing, and a pavilion was also built. The area around the tomb is enclosed by a stone wall. Over the 200-plus years from the 15th year of the Kangxi reign (1676) to the 7th year of the Guangxu reign (1881), the tomb underwent multiple renovations, and the tomb mound, offering hall, and retreat house have been well preserved. In the 1950s, the original structures were gradually demolished, but the tomb mound remained. During the Cultural Revolution, the grave was damaged. In 1980, cultural relics authorities excavated precious artifacts at the site, including a tomb stele, epitaph, and memorial tablet.

On the western cliff face of the He Tengjiao tomb site, the cliff inscription “Noble Spirit Lives On” (“浩气常存”) remains. It was carved in 1927 by “Army Colonel Xiangxi Zhou Rixiang.” Given the significant historical value of the He Tengjiao tomb, it was listed as one of the first provincial-level cultural relic protection units in 1982.
