Chishui Bamboo Sea National Forest Park, located over 40 kilometers east of Chishui City in Guizhou Province and adjacent to the Chitong Highway, is known for its expansive "Bamboo Sea" scenery. The park features 170,000 mu of nanmu bamboo sprawling across the mountains. Climb up to the “Sea-Viewing Pavilion,” lean on the railing, and behold the boundless sea of green covering the slopes. A mountain breeze blows through, creating rustling waves of bamboo and rippling emerald hues that are incredibly refreshing. Walking into the forest feels like entering a green ocean, with swaying bamboo waves, tranquil beauty, elegance, and lush greenery that captivate the soul. Within the area, unique natural attractions such as “Heavenly Gong,” “Earthly Waterfall,” “Eight Immortals Tree,” and “Couple Trees” add endless delight for visitors and offer a wonderful experience of returning to nature.

Hushi Town is the heart and birthplace of the Bamboo Sea. It is said that there were no nanmu bamboo in this area originally. Over 260 years ago, a young man named Li Lipai brought three nanmu bamboo plants from Fujian, on the shores of the East China Sea. Thanks to the hard work and sweat of the people of Chishui and the nourishment of the rich waters of the Chishui River, these three bamboo plants eventually multiplied into vast, verdant bamboo forests. Today, the area has over 300,000 mu of contiguous nanmu bamboo and more than 150,000 mu of various other types of bamboo forests, making it a nationally renowned bamboo sea forest park.

The Bamboo Sea presents breathtaking beauty in all four seasons. In summer and autumn, the landscape is filled with emerald green, teeming with rare birds and animals; in deep winter, it is blanketed in crystal-clear ice and snow, pristine and awe-inspiring. In spring, everything is vibrant with life. The bamboo shoots, having endured the frozen “ordeal” beneath the earth, break through layers of old soil, push aside stubborn rocks, and reach boldly toward the blue sky with the spring breeze and sunshine.

The central attraction of the Bamboo Sea National Forest Park is the Ye Zhu Ping sightseeing and leisure area. This is a scenic section that combines the beauty of the bamboo sea, waterfall clusters, virgin forests, wildlife, and Danxia landforms. It is an ideal destination for summer retreats, vacations, and convalescence, as well as a natural haven for literati and artists to create their works.

The highest point in the park is the “Sea-Viewing Pavilion.” The pavilion has six floors and is 26 meters tall. It is an uniquely designed building that harmonizes beautifully with the bamboo sea scenery. When you climb to the top and look out, the layered, vast expanse of bamboo’s charm is fully visible. As the mountain breeze blows, the endless green waves surge like spring tides or rolling surf, stirring your emotions and excitement. Looking around further, the distant and nearby peaks are veiled in layers of misty clouds, resembling an ocean where water and sky merge. The elegant, fresh, white, and soothing clouds drift with the gentle mountain breeze, like a thin veil undulating among the emerald peaks, making the lush mountains appear and disappear intermittently—an overwhelmingly beautiful sight that is truly enchanting.
