On July 9, the Guizhou Chishui Danxia Science Volunteer Experience Camp and Training Camp, jointly organized by the China Danxia Chishui World Natural Heritage Administration and the Chishui Danxia National Geological Park Administration, and hosted by Footpatrol (Wuhan) Information Technology Co., Ltd., with the support of Chishui Tourism Development Co., Ltd., concluded successfully in Chishui.
This experience camp and training camp aimed to help participants learn about the geological science, biodiversity, history, and culture related to Chishui Danxia, gain a full understanding of its earth science and aesthetic values, and through field investigations, explore Chishui Danxia's scientific research, educational, and leisure tourism routes. Participants also discussed the working model of science volunteers and innovated methods for science communication.
It is reported that the three-day Chishui Danxia science popularization event involved over 30 experts and scholars from institutions such as World Heritage Administrations, Scenic Area Management Committees, Geological Park Administrations (Offices), and Geological and Mineral Research Institutes across Guizhou, Fujian, Hubei, Guangdong, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Jiangxi. Additionally, more than 30 science training camp volunteers from universities and educational institutions including China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Sun Yat-sen University, Nanjing University, and Zhonggong Education joined the event. Together with science mentors, they visited attractions such as the Chishui Waterfall Scenic Area, Zhangjiawan Rock Turning Scenic Area, Chishui Sidonggou Scenic Area, Yangjiayan Scenic Area, Foguangyan Scenic Area, and the Chishui Alsophila National Nature Reserve to engage in science popularization activities. They experienced the joy of science outreach and felt the most red, green, and beautiful aspects of Chishui.
Next, the experts, scholars, and volunteers will return to their respective work and study positions, becoming science communication advocates. While enhancing the public’s scientific literacy, they will also elevate the cultural brand of Chishui Danxia, helping its science popularization and educational tourism initiatives achieve even greater success.
