Last updated 2026-09-24 — The second season of the 2019 "Four Crossings of the Chishui River" Outdoor Triathlon Challenge was grandly held in the Chishui River Valley National Tourism Resort and the Chishui Danxia Tourist Area.

On June 22, jointly organized by the Guizhou Mountain Outdoor Sports Management Center, the Zunyi Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the People’s Government of Chishui City, and the Zunyi Communications & Tourism Investment (Group) Co., Ltd., and co-hosted by the Chishui Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Zunyi Cultural Tourism Industry Development (Group) Co., Ltd., the 2019 "Four Crossings of the Chishui River" Outdoor Triathlon Challenge – Season 2, themed “Share the Artistic Beauty of Chishui, Enjoy Oxygen-bar Sports,” was grandly held in the Chishui River Valley National Tourism Resort and the Chishui Danxia Tourist Area.

The Outdoor Triathlon Challenge is an emerging comprehensive sports competition that scientifically and rationally combines three outdoor sports—running, cycling, and kayaking—into one. It is a race that brings participants close to nature while offering challenges and fun. Competing along ecologically beautiful courses, athletes not only enjoy stunning scenery but also face tests of their physical strength, technical skills, teamwork, and mental endurance. Since its inception in 2017, the event has been successfully held for three consecutive years, attracting numerous domestic and international outdoor sports enthusiasts. Alongside boosting the fitness craze, it aligns with Guizhou’s broader trend of integrating sports and tourism, establishing itself as a branded sports tourism event in the Chishui River Valley.

At 9:00 AM on the 22nd, as the starting horn sounded, the athletes dashed off like arrows released from their bows, racing along the Chishui River Valley Tourism Road. They competed through running, cycling, and kayaking, showcasing their skills amid the picturesque landscape of the Chishui River Valley.

The Chishui River Valley National Tourism Resort is Guizhou’s first national-level tourism resort, covering an area of 175 square kilometers across the three counties/cities of Renhuai, Xishui, and Chishui. It boasts a long cultural history, rich red culture, and high-quality eco-tourism resources. Compared to previous years, this year’s event has seen improvements in scale, quality, services, and professional competition standards. The race route has been thoughtfully designed to allow athletes to better engage with the local cultural and ecological characteristics.

To enhance the fun for participants and offer them a better view of the breathtaking scenery of the Chishui Danxia Tourist Area, on June 23, the entertaining event “Four Caves Wonderland Trail Run”—a fun side event of the Four Crossings of the Chishui Triathlon—kicked off at the Chishui Four Caves Gully Scenic Area. This ecological scenic area consists of four waterfalls: Water Curtain Cave, Moon Bay, Flying Frog Cliff, and White Dragon Pool. It is one of the core areas of the World Natural Heritage site, Chishui Danxia, and is characterized mainly by its danxia landforms, waterfall clusters, bamboo forests, Alsophila spinulosa (tree ferns), and primeval forests. It serves as a microcosm of the Chishui National Scenic Area, known as the “City of a Thousand Waterfalls, Crown of Danxia, Hometown of Bamboo, and Kingdom of Tree Ferns.” This event allowed outdoor sports enthusiasts to relax and enjoy the wonders of “forest breathing” over the weekend.

“The Chishui River Valley Outdoor Triathlon Challenge is an important part of the external promotional strategy for the Chishui River Valley tourism brand. It blends popular modern outdoor sports with local characteristics, allowing participants to enjoy the natural scenery and learn about the local culture while competing. This helps continuously enhance the brand value of the Chishui River Valley, a national-level tourism resort,” said Li Jingjing, Deputy General Manager of the Zunyi Cultural Tourism Industry Development (Group) Co., Ltd.
