Bing’an Red First Army Corps Exhibition Hall

The Bing’an Red First Army Corps Exhibition Hall is a national classic red tourism scenic area and a patriotic education base.

The Bing’an Red First Army Corps Exhibition Hall is located in the ancient town of Bing’an, Bing’an Township, Chishui City, adjacent to the Chixi Highway and about 25 kilometers from downtown Chishui. It is one of the national classic red tourism scenic areas.

After the Zunyi Conference in January 1935, the Central Military Commission decided to pass through Chishui County and cross the Yangtze River between Luzhou and Yibin in Sichuan Province to head north for the War of Resistance against Japan. On January 24, the Red First Army Corps entered Chishui County, occupied Yuanhou on the 25th, and then split into two routes to attack Chishui County from both sides. The 1st Red Division, led by Commander Li Jukui and Political Commissar Huang Su, advanced along the right bank road of the Chishui River toward Gulu and Wanglong. The 2nd Red Division, led by Commander Chen Guang and Political Commissar Liu Yalou, crossed the river at Bizhao, about 5 kilometers downstream from Yuanhou, and headed toward Bing’an and Fuxingchang. After occupying Bing’an, the 2nd Red Division set up its division headquarters there. On the 26th, Lin Biao led the Red First Army Corps headquarters to move into Bing’an, setting up the command post at the residence of a local landlord surnamed Wang. In the early hours of the 27th, the 2nd Red Division launched the battle at Fuxingchang. Due to continuous reinforcements from the Sichuan Army, the battle was lost, and the 2nd Red Division retreated to Bing’an. On that day, following Zhu De’s order instructing the “First Army Corps headquarters and the main force of the 2nd Division to gather in Yuanhou area and prepare to participate in the battle on the 28th,” the Red First Army Corps headquarters and the 2nd Red Division withdrew toward Yuangou, camping there for the night.

After the liberation, the landlord’s residence was taken over by the government during the land reform. In March 2005, the former site of the Red First Army Corps Command in Bing’an was listed as one of the national classic red tourism scenic areas and one of the thirty classic red tourism routes in China. In May 2006, the Chishui Municipal Government converted the former command site into the Bing’an Red First Army Corps Memorial Hall for visitors. In October 2008, with approval from the provincial government, the site was renovated and renamed the Bing’an Red First Army Corps Exhibition Hall.
