Fu Yushu (1746–1812), styled Suyu and also known as Zhuzhuang, passed the imperial examination as a Juren (presented scholar) in the 30th year of the Qianlong reign (1765) during the Qing Dynasty. He once served as the magistrate of Fuan County in Jiangxi and was appointed as the Tongzhi (deputy prefect) of Tonggu in Ruizhou Prefecture, but resigned from office after three years and returned to his hometown. His theatrical script *The Legend of the Mandarin Duck Mirror* pioneered the development of drama in Guizhou, and he compiled the first privately-authored county chronicle in China, *Records of Our Hometown*. He also edited the 24-volume *Old Tales of Guizhou*, the 24-volume *Prosperous Annals of Guizhou*, over 40 volumes of *Poetry and Prose Collection of Zhuzhuang*, 10 volumes of *Literary Gleanings*, four volumes of *Annotations on Han Poetry*, and other poetry and prose collections such as *Collections of Ancient and Modern Poetry and Essays*. In the field of scholarly research, he wrote the four-volume *Yi Jing Studies on Image and Number* and the two-volume *Yi Jing Studies on Hexagrams and Lines*. Throughout his life, he produced an extensive body of work, leaving behind extremely valuable cultural heritage and providing important material for later generations studying the history of Weng’an and the Yi Jing. He is regarded as a towering cultural figure in central Guizhou. The *Guizhou General Gazetteer* states: “At that time, scholars throughout the country all knew of Zhuzhuang.” His former residence is a county-level cultural relic protection unit. It is a wooden structure with a single-eave gable roof covered with green tiles, built in the traditional Chuan-dou style. It consists of the main hall, side wings, and an entrance gate. Constructed in the early Qing Dynasty, it underwent several divisions later, and today only the main hall and left wing remain. It has now been turned into an exhibition hall for “Cultural Figures of Weng’an.”

Fu Yushu (1746–1812), styled Suyu and also known as Zhuzhuang, was a native of Xiatai, Caosong, Weng’an County, Guizhou Province during the Qing Dynasty. He was a renowned poet in Guizhou. Born into a family of scholars, his grandfather Fu Ruli had studied under Qian Bangqi, an imperial censor and military supervisor during the Ming Dynasty. Fu Yushu’s father, Fu Longguang, was a Xiucai (a successful candidate in the imperial county-level examination) in the mid-Qianlong period and had a lifelong passion for the Cheng-Zhu school of Neo-Confucianism. He authored several academic works in his lifetime. Influenced by the scholarly atmosphere of his family, Fu Yushu embarked on the path of academic pursuit.
