Former Site of the Tongzipo Farmers' Association

The Former Site of the Tongzipo Farmers' Association is located in Tongzipo Village, about 5 kilometers southeast of Zhucang Town, Weng'an County. In January 1935, after the Red Army "crossed the Wu River," in accordance with the spirit of the "Houchang Conference," the revolutionary forces used Tongzipo in Zhuchang (Zhucang), Weng'an County as their base to extend their influence to the surrounding areas. They actively mobilized and armed the local masses to carry out revolutionary activities. On January 12, 1935, the Red Army held a mass rally in the field in front of the home of the local landlord Shi Ruzhou in Tongzipo, attended by tens of thousands. At this meeting, the "Tongzipo Farmers' Association" and the "Tongzipo Red Guerrilla Unit" were established. Chen Jinbang was elected as the chairman of the Farmers' Association, and Yang Fashun as the captain of the guerrilla unit. A red flag and two machetes were also presented. The offices of the Red Army, the Farmers' Association, and the guerrilla unit were set up within the residence of the landlord Shi Ruzhou. The Tongzipo Farmers' Association and guerrilla unit were the first revolutionary armed organizations established by the Red Army on the Long March after leaving the Soviet Area, and they hold profound political significance and revolutionary impact. To widely promote revolutionary ideals, the Red Army put up many slogans in the Tongzipo area, such as “The Nationalist Party claims to resist Japan, so why did they give the three northeastern provinces to Japan?” “Workers and peasants — unite to fight the landlords,” and “Only the Soviet can save China,” which were written on the upper floor of the wing room in the Shi family house.

The site of the Farmers' Association has been designated as a county-level key cultural relics protection unit and a patriotic education demonstration base.

Directions to the Former Site of the Tongzipo Farmers' Association: Take a bus from Weng'an Bus Station to Zhucang, Xiaoyuanzi, Renjiaping, or other destinations, and get off at Tongzipo. First bus departs at 6:40 AM, last bus at 6:00 PM, with a frequency of every 20–30 minutes. Ticket price is 18 RMB. Driving takes approximately 1 hour.
