Former Residence of Revolutionary Martyr Shu Baochu

Shu Baochu, also known as Shu Zhongyuan, was from Gaokangpo in Pingdingying Town, Weng’an County. He was born in 1906. After graduating from normal school in 1923, he taught at primary schools such as Suoluo and Yanjing. In 1925, at the age of 19, he gave up teaching to join the military. He once served as a propagandist in the Hanyang Detachment of the Propaganda Team of the Hubei Provincial Party Department of the Kuomintang and as the head of the General Affairs Department at the Hangzhou Police School.

In 1931, Shu Baochu enrolled in the preparatory class of the Central Military Academy. During this time, he became closely associated with his fellow townsman Leng Shaonong. After being observed, assessed, and tested by Leng, Shu was cultivated and introduced to join the Communist Party of China, where he engaged in underground work. From then on, he began a new political career. After graduating from the military academy, he was assigned by the Party Central Committee to infiltrate the 85th Division of the Kuomintang, where he recruited party members, established a Party branch, and attempted to persuade the 85th Division to defect to the Red Army. Just as everything was in place, he was arrested due to betrayal by a traitor. He was executed in 1932 in Chongyang City. His former residence is located in Pingdingying, 18 kilometers south of Weng’an County. It is a traditional three-sided courtyard-style dwelling and was listed as a county-level key cultural relics protection unit in 2001.

Admission: Free and open to the public. Visitors can register and receive tickets by presenting their ID or relevant documents at the scenic area entrance.

Directions to the Former Residence of Revolutionary Martyr Shu Baochu: Take a passenger bus from Weng’an County to Pingdingying Town and get off at the Gaokangpo Village stop. The distance from Weng’an to the former residence of Revolutionary Martyr Leng Shaonong at Gaokangpo in Pingdingying Town is about 10 kilometers, and the drive takes approximately 30 minutes.

Shu Baochu was born into a peasant family. He graduated from the Weng’an Simple Normal School in 1923. In the autumn of 1925, he followed the Guizhou Army's Li Xiaoyan Division to Sichuan and once served as a propagandist in the Hanyang Detachment of the Propaganda Team of the Hunan Provincial Party Department of the Kuomintang. After the “April 12 Incident,” he was purged due to his leftist thinking but continued to work in Li’s Division. Between 1928 and 1930, he was assigned to serve as the head of the General Affairs Department at the Hangzhou Police School. During this time, he frequently read progressive publications such as Outline of Social Sciences and The First Five-Year Plan of the Soviet Union.
