Guangzhao Hydropower Station, built in Guangzhao Village Group, Bingwu Village, Datian Township, Qinglong County, derives its name from this location. The station serves as the “leading” hydropower project in the cascade development of the main stream of the Beipan River. With an installed capacity of 1.04 million kilowatts, the dam stands 200.5 meters high, is 12 meters wide at the crest, 166.63 meters wide at the base, and stretches 412 meters in length — currently the tallest roller-compacted concrete gravity dam in the world. The dam rises majestically between two mountain peaks on either side of the Beipan River.

Guangzhao Lake is located in the middle reaches of the Beipan River at the border between Qinglong County and Guanling County in Guizhou Province. Situated in the heart of the Liupanshui industrial zone and adjacent to the Anshun industrial area, it is an artificial lake formed by the impoundment and power generation of the Guangzhao Hydropower Station on the Beipan River. It lies 162 kilometers from Guiyang, about 70 kilometers from Huangguoshu Waterfall, and 30 kilometers from Qinglong County.

The reservoir has a backwater length of 69 kilometers, a water surface area of 51.45 square kilometers, and a storage capacity of 3.245 billion cubic meters, making it the largest artificial lake in Guizhou Province. Its azure waters stretch as far as the eye can see like an inland sea, while green mountains and bamboo forests exude a misty fragrance. With its breathtaking scenery and extraordinary charm, the lake is like a pearl embedded in the highland mountains, offering crystal-clear blue waters that invite endless exploration.

The riverbanks of Guangzhao Lake boast well-preserved primitive ecological environments, where vines climb freely, ancient trees thrive on cliffs, and wild animals such as tragopans and monkeys roam in groups. Birdsong and monkey calls echo through the valley, creating a marvelous interplay of lake and mountain views and enchanting valley landscapes. Guangzhao is known as the “city that never sleeps under the sunrise.” Visiting Guangzhao Lake is a truly sublime experience.
