Former Residence of Peng Jiazhen
The former residence of Peng Jiazhen is a cultural relic protection unit of Jintang County.
The former residence of Peng Jiazhen, a martyr of the Xinhai Revolution, is located on the southern bank of the Pi River in Tonghe Village, Yangliu Township, Jintang County. By the roadside stands a stele inscribed with “Hometown of General Peng Jiazhen.” The stele is 1.64 meters tall and 0.85 meters wide, with single-line regular script engraved and inlaid in a stone base. The residence covers an area of 11 mu, with the building area accounting for about one-third. It is surrounded by earthen walls, with a ditch running along the outer perimeter and lush bamboo planted densely within. The house walls are built with adobe bricks and topped with blue-tiled roofs. To the left of the courtyard is the study, to the right is the guest room, and low walls separate the wing rooms on both sides from the main yard. A passageway beside the hall leads to the backyard. The beams are inscribed with inked characters reading: “1889, the third month of spring, auspicious day”; “White-glazed floral bricks, elegant home with refreshing breeze, virtuous neighborhood shared, longevity enjoyed together, springs of integrity and yielding waters, filial piety and diligence in farming, an auspicious dwelling chosen for peaceful living.” The backyard is a small quadrangle used as living quarters, where the beams and pillars of the main structures are made of the precious red bean wood.
The former residence of Peng Jiazhen was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jintang County in 1988.
