The Three Gorges of the Tuojiang River

Stretching downstream from Huayuan Water City along the Tuojiang River, these gorges offer lush, emerald-green surroundings and idyllic scenery. The TV series "Autumn Harvest," adapted from the works of our province's writer Zhou Keqin, was once filmed here.

1. The First Gorge of the Tuojiang River —— Bie Ling Gorge

Legend has it that Bie Ling Gorge was excavated by Bie Ling, the prime minister of the ancient Shu King Wangdi. Halfway up the mountainside within the gorge stands the Temple of the Three Sovereigns, built in honor of Bie Ling. The gorge is 800 meters long and no more than 100 meters wide, with towering cliffs on both sides and exceptionally steep terrain.

2. The Second Gorge of the Tuojiang River —— Ming Yue Gorge

Formed by the winding flow of the river, which curves like a crescent moon, this section is known as the Second Gorge of the Tuojiang River —— Ming Yue Gorge. Spanning a total length of 6 kilometers, it is the longest of the three gorges. Lush green mountains on both sides create a picturesque landscape, with layered peaks covered in verdant hues. To the left is Paotai Mountain, and to the right are the Great Yunding Mountain, which resembles a giant dragon, and the Small Yunding Mountain, shaped like a white crane. These formations stand facing each other across the river, showcasing varying shades of green. The river winds narrowly through the gorge with turbulent waves.

3. The Third Gorge of the Tuojiang River —— Jiu Long Gorge

Jiu Long Gorge is only 1 kilometer long. On the left bank, nine ridges protrude from the ground, descending along the mountain, cutting through the river, and then ascending along the mountain’s ridge to its peak. These ridges resemble nine dragons playing amidst the water and mountains, earning the name “Nine Dragons Crossing the River,” hence the gorge's name, Jiu Long Gorge.
