Qinx River Source Scenic Area

The Qinx River is part of the Yellow River system and is one of the eight major rivers in Shanxi Province. It ranks as the second longest in the province, only after the Fen River, and flows over a hundred kilometers within Qinyuan County, covering a drainage area of 2,103 square kilometers. The Qinx River is the mother river of Qinyuan County, which derives its name from the river’s origin. There are six identified sources of the Qinx River: Hufeng Village in Guantan Township, Xigou in Jingfeng Township, Maquan Village in Baihuyao, Jianyadi Village in Chishi Bridge Township, Shuiyu Village in Congziyu Township, and Heidi Village in Wangtao Township. Its main water source originates from Heidi Village, hence the name “Qinx River Source.”

The river source lies in a narrow cliff valley behind the village, where the cliffs are about 7 meters apart. At the base of the cliffs, two spring streams — each as thick as a bucket — gush out with crystal-clear water that never dries up throughout the year. After converging, the two streams flow swiftly eastward down the gully, gathering numerous tributaries before the Xiaonanchuan stream exits the county boundary, commencing its thousand-mile journey as it rushes into the Yellow River.

The Qinx River Source has now been developed into a scenic area. The area features towering mountains facing each other, steep cliffs as if vertically cut, and deep valleys that open and close intermittently. Sometimes, emerald-green peaks stack endlessly beyond sight, while at other times, narrow canyons appear as if leading to a dead end. Every year, numerous visitors come here to explore and seek adventure.
