Some say that Rock God Mountain in Renhe is the Qingcheng Mountain of Panzhihua. Though this statement is somewhat biased, it is not without reason.

The claim that “Rock God Mountain is the Qingcheng Mountain of Panzhihua” is biased because, just as some have argued that “no two leaves are alike,” there are no two identical mountains in the world. Compared to Qingcheng Mountain and other mountains, Rock God Mountain in Renhe is distinctly different.

Therefore, it’s no wonder that anyone who has climbed Qingcheng Mountain might feel a faint sense of familiarity when hiking Rock God Mountain, as if they were on the famously tranquil Qingcheng Mountain.

In truth, Rock God Mountain in Renhe is simply Rock God Mountain in Renhe.

Our usual work and living environments, located in a subtropical dry-hot valley region, often feature rather withered vegetation. As a result, whenever we have free time, we naturally crave the closeness of greenery — a sentiment that is quite human. Towering at the edge of the Renhe basin and situated at a relatively high altitude, Rock God Mountain, coupled with its revered status as a “sacred mountain,” has discouraged reckless deforestation. As a result, its vegetation is particularly lush, making it an ideal summer retreat.

The vegetation on Rock God Mountain is somewhat unusual. From the foot to the summit, as the climate changes, so does the plant life, forming distinct zonal layers of shrubbery, Yunnan pine, and broadleaf trees rising upward in bands. The entire Rock God Mountain is almost like an illustrated manual of Panzhihua’s three-dimensional climate.

The trees on the mountain are also peculiar. Some stand tall and upright, some climb like vines, some twist like dragons, and others lie sprawled on the ground. Due to plants’ phototropic habits, on steep slopes you’ll often see one or several trees extending long branches to one side, resembling the welcoming posture of Huangshan’s Guest-Greeting Pines — reaching out their arms to greet hikers. However, these hospitable greeters are not Huangshan pines. Some are Yunnan pines, others are podocarpus, and still others may be oak or some other species.

There is a temple on Rock God Mountain called Putuo Temple.

Putuo Temple is extraordinarily serene. Here, the noise of the city completely disappears, replaced by a silence so profound it feels almost ethereal. Even the evening drum and morning bell, birdsong, or the chirping of cicadas in midsummer seem to serve only as annotations to the silence, proving its tangible presence. When visitors ascend to the mountain temple and face the solemn deities, they can't help but lower their voices, slow their steps, and tread as lightly as possible, fearing that any sound or the clatter of footsteps might shatter the surrounding quiet or disturb the pristine dwelling place of the immortals.

The temple on Rock God Mountain is built beneath a sheer cliff. Viewed from the mountain’s base, that cliff resembles a pink Buddha face, and Putuo Temple is nestled right beneath its chin. With the divine visage above offering protection and the Buddha’s shoulder below providing support, the setting feels both magical and marvelous.

The architectural complex of Putuo Temple consists of seven halls: the Guanyin Hall, Dragon King Hall, Mahavira Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, Thunder God Hall, Mountain God Hall, and Maitreya Ancient Buddha Hall. Although limited by the geographic environment, the cave-hugging structure built along the slope feels a bit confined, its red walls and green tiles, upturned eaves, and bracket sets still give off a perfectly balanced, classic, and exquisitely delicate atmosphere. The Jade Emperor Hall, in particular, stands out with its unique charm.

The Jade Emperor Hall is built beneath a sheer cliff as straight as an outstretched palm. The back wall of the hall is actually the rock face itself. The floor inside, adjacent to the cliff, is a stone platform, while the outer half is supported by several pillars forming an elevated floor. Looking up, the Jade Emperor Hall appears like a half-suspended pavilion, artificially affixed to the vertical cliff.
