Ancient Tea Horse Road – Baolian Street Post Road

The Ancient Tea Horse Road – Baolian Street Post Road is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Baolian Street Post Road (Longmatan District)

Baolian Street was first built during the Song and Yuan dynasties. At that time, it was called Tucokou, serving as the only route from Luzhou to Chongqing downstream or to Chengdu upstream. Historically, Baolian Street was an official road used by local officials to welcome and see off imperial envoys. It’s worth noting that the formation of this official road benefited from the prospering water transport and bustling commerce in Luzhou during the Ming and Qing dynasties, as well as the imperial court's decision to switch the transport of Sichuan salt from civilian to official management. As a result, salt boats crowded the docks at Xiaoshi Upper Wharf, Middle Wharf, Wangye Temple, and Shuiyantan. This old bluestone-paved street was renamed Baolian Street during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era (Emperor Shenzong Zhu Yijun ascended the throne in 1572 at age 10 and abdicated in 1620; “Wanli” was the reign title). Baolian Street stretches one kilometer in length.

Protected area: Baolian Street is 810 meters long in total. The protected zone extends 5 meters outward to the east and west, 5 meters northward to Section One of Yingbin Avenue in Lianhua Pond Subdistrict, and 5 meters southward to the intersection at Zhuanjiadian.

Construction control area: Extends 10 meters beyond the protected area.
