Kochi Prefecture is situated in southern Shikoku, Japan, along the Pacific Ocean. Formerly known as Tosa Province, its main attractions include Kochi Castle and the Shimanto River. When people think of Kochi, Sakamoto Ryoma often comes to mind immediately. In the square in front of Kochi Station, three large statues are displayed, with the central one being the illustrious Ryoma. Since Sakamoto Ryoma has become synonymous with Kochi, his image can be found all over the place, and even street performance plays are specifically based on his story. It was truly lucky for our crew to encounter them on location.

A super-popular idol among children“Anpanman”originated in Kochi.Here, there is the famous Anpanman Museum, which displays a variety of Anpanman merchandise.

▲ Kochi Prefecture is also the birthplace of Anpanman, and you can even see the adorable face of Anpanman on trains.

Most street performance plays take place within Kochi Prefecture, with content centered around stories from the area. Although they are like entertainers who release albums, visitors can purchase CDs, ask for autographs, and take photos with them. The four main characters sign in four different colored pens, and their handwriting is quite beautiful. They also hope to perform in Taiwan one day to bring the stories of Kochi to the Taiwanese audience.

Climbing to the top of Kochi Castle’s keep (watchtower) offers a view of the cityscape. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great that day, so we couldn’t capture the beauty of the blue sky and white clouds.
