The Site of the Baima Mountain Battle — Baima Mountain is located in Wulong County and served as the last defensive line outside Chongqing during Chiang Kai-shek’s rule. In the military strategy of the Chiang Kai-shek clique, Baima Mountain was a strategic barrier to “secure the Southwest and establish the capital in Chongqing.” Therefore, both sides understood that holding Baima Mountain would block the advance of the People’s Liberation Army toward Chongqing; capturing Baima Mountain would leave no natural defenses outside Chongqing. The entire Baima Mountain Campaign included battles such as the flanking assault at Chaotianwang, the assault on Daluoya, the raid on Chayuan, the encirclement and annihilation at Baoyan, and the blocking action at Heidaqiao. Key battle sites included Wanjiaying, Chaotianwang, Fengchuiling, Daluoya, Chayuan, and Baoyan.
