Recently, a mysterious cave in Wulong was explored by an expedition team, and the real scenes inside have been largely unveiled.

The cave is about five kilometers long, with a height difference of over a hundred meters inside, and underground rivers running through it. There are spectacular layered calcified terraces, as well as a large number of bizarrely shaped stalactites—some resembling drooping white lotus flowers, others like a statue of Guanyin. Especially striking are some stalactites with a purple crystal sheen, which are truly breathtaking. Members of the exploration team exclaimed that the magnificence of this cave rivals the world-famous Furong Cave.

Wulong’s Furong Cave, one of the world’s three greatest caves that can stand alongside the U.S.’s Mammoth Cave and France’s Clamouse Cave, is also China’s only cave listed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site.

Furong Cave boasts a dazzling array of over 70 types of stalactites, covering nearly all known types of stalactite deposits. The cave’s “stone blossoms” spectacle—including dogtooth spar crystals, helictite flowers, cave grapes, gypsum flowers, and red coral—is vivid, delicate, and dazzling, unique across the country. Due to its magnificent, elaborate, and richly diverse landscapes, Professor Zhu Xuewen, president of the China Cave Research Association, once commented: “Furong Cave is a resplendent underground palace of art.”

After undergoing renovation, upgrading, and reopening on April 25, Furong Cave has not only enhanced its external aesthetics such as lighting, walkways, and railings, but also gained deeper cultural significance, truly appealing to both refined and popular tastes. The cave now utilizes 3D MAPPING technology, transforming static scenic spots into dynamic displays, engaging not just the eyes but also the ears and physical senses. Additionally, reflective effects such as the Pine Immortals Gathering, Ten Thousand Arrows Hanging on the Cliff, and Lotus Pond have been added, expanding the spatial feel of the scenic area and enhancing its spiritual charm.

The Furong Cave Scenic Area will be open to the public free of charge from April 25 to 27 for three days, excluding the cable car fee. Visitors need to collect tickets at the ticket window to enter. During the free period, the scenic area will also implement safety flow control based on conditions inside the cave.
