Yangtou Mountain Yan Emperor Cultural Tourism Area (EmperorYan cultural relic in Mt. yangtou) is located in Shennong Town, Gaoping City, about 35 kilometers north of Jincheng City. The relics and sites related to Yan Emperor Shennong, the ancestor of the Chinese nation, are widely distributed across the entire town, numbering more than 40. This is the birthplace of Chinese agricultural civilization, where the beautiful legend of “Jingwei Filling the Sea” is told. It is home to Yangtou Mountain, where Yan Emperor once lived, and the unparalleled Ming Dynasty stone stele of the “Yan Emperor Mausoleum.” The carved stone bases in the Yan Emperor’s Traveling Palace and the wooden carvings of the “Journey to the West” pattern in the main hall are among the finest surviving examples of sculpture in China.

Xie Chun (?–1129), courtesy name Jingxiang, was a native of Liuyang in the Song Dynasty. He was highly regarded for his talent and bravery. In the third year of the Jianyan era of the Southern Song (1129), a mutiny broke out in Tanzhou (present-day Changsha), marked by widespread arson and looting. The regional commander Xiang Ziyin ordered Meng Yanqing, the prefectural judge, to pacify the rebels. Soon after, the mutineer Du Yan invaded Liuyang, where Meng was defeated and killed. Xiang then ordered Zhao Minyan, also a prefectural judge, to lead troops against the rebels, but they were unsuccessful. At that time, Xie Chun led the local militia as vanguard to assist Zhao in battle. He personally slew dozens of enemies but was eventually overwhelmed, captured, and killed by the rebels.
