Anchang Miao Village

Anchang Miao Village is located in Anchang Township, about 54 kilometers from Pengshui County. It is a Miao ethnic enclave where over 90% of the population is Miao, and it is also known as the “Hometown of Folk Songs.” The original Miao folk song “Jiao A Yi” from Anchang won the gold award at the CCTV Young Singers Grand Prix. This is an ethnic culture tourism area that integrates Miao songs, Miao dances, Miao villages, Miao customs, and natural scenery.

The terrain here is high around the edges and low in the middle, resembling a horse’s saddle—hence the common name “Anchang Head,” from which the township gets its name. The scenic area features rolling mountains, crisscrossing streams, fertile fields, a pleasant climate, and abundant resources. It is the part of Pengshui with the highest concentration of Miao people, the best-preserved Miao villages, and the richest Miao cultural traditions. The Miao people who live here observe Miao rituals, follow Miao customs, celebrate Miao festivals, wear Miao clothing, sing Miao songs, and dance Miao dances. The famous Miao song tune “Jiao A Yi,” with its natural, unrestrained spirit and beautiful, melodious tune, has been passed down through the ages and remains widely sung to this day. In 2000, the Chongqing Municipal Government designated this area as the “Hometown of Miao Folk Songs.” The Miao dance “Treading the Flower Mountain” also originated here.

The Anchang Miao Village Ethnic Culture Park is a shining pearl among the many tourist attractions in the Wu River Gallery Scenic Area. Visiting here allows you to explore the many mysteries of an ancient ethnic group; to appreciate the profound history and culture of the Miao mountains, Miao ridges, and Miao dwellings; to experience the unique ethnic charm of the Miao village; and to climb stone mills, walk through stone forests, visit Yunpan, stroll around Shenhuangkeng, and more, all while having fun amid the magical natural landscapes of the Miao countryside. The people of Anchang are warm and hospitable, and a trip here offers a full immersion into the ancient culture of the Miao people.

The currently under-construction Anchang Miao Village is located in Group 1 of Dachi Village, Anchang Township. Behind the village lies a vast expanse of bizarre and unique stone forests connected to natural caves, along with rustic wooden farmhouses and countryside barbecues, creating a strong Miao atmosphere. The main components of the Anchang Miao Village project include: a 1,300-square-meter Song and Dialogue Hall, an 800-square-meter song and dance square, a 2-kilometer inner-loop scenic road, a 5-kilometer walking trail, a 500-meter Miao ethnic culture street, and related supporting facilities.
