A thousand-li Wu River, a hundred-li gallery — its beauty lies in the mountain gorges, its grandeur in the power stations. Stretching from Pengshui in Chongqing to Yanhe in Guizhou, the area features towering mountains, deep valleys, and continuous glistening rapids, with emerald waters flowing through the river and lush greenery lining both banks. It combines the “majesty of Jianmen, the grandeur of the Three Gorges, and the elegance of Mount Emei,” making it the most spectacular section of the Wu River. In the Pengshui section, the river receives waters from the Yu River, Zhufu River, and Changxi River, forming the Xiniu, Mafeng, and Panggong gorges along the banks, and creating landscapes such as the majestic outline of Mount Mowei, the “Rhino Gazing at the Moon,” the sheer cliffs of Huangyan, and the “River Gate Locking the River.” With its imposing passes and endless beauty, it is a feast for the eyes. After the completion of the Wu River Pengshui Hydropower Station, high gorges turned into serene lakes, surrounded by jade-like waters and verdant bamboo forests, where water and sky blend into one, creating a scene both picturesque and poetic — “Of all the wonders of the Wu River landscape, this is the foremost.” The Wu River Gallery tour focuses on canyon sightseeing and water-based experiences. Drifting along the gorge river, you’ll feel as if “the boat is sailing through a painting, and you are part of the artwork.”

Introduction to the Pengshui Section of the Wu River Gallery: The Wu River originates from the Wumeng Mountains in Guizhou Province. It flows from Yanhe County in Guizhou through Youyang’s Gongtan Autonomous Region, Pengshui, Wulong, and Fuling before joining the Yangtze River. It has a total length of 1,030 kilometers. The section from Yanhe in Guizhou to Pengshui is considered the most essential part of the “Hundred-li Wu River Gallery.” Within Pengshui, the river flows for 64 kilometers, with approximately 34 kilometers from the Wanzu Dam of the Pengshui Wanzu Hydropower Station to the ancient town of Gongtan in Youyang, passing through six towns: Shangan, Lujiao, Shuanglong, Xintian, Shipan, and Wanzu.

Wu River Gallery Painted Pleasure Boat:

To facilitate travel for domestic and international tourists wishing to explore the beautiful “Hundred-li Wu River Gallery” and experience the unique local customs and culture, two classic Chinese-style tourist cruise ships — “Wu River Gallery No. 1” and “Wu River Gallery No. 2” — have been specially designed and launched. These cruises mainly cover the premium section of the Wu River Gallery from Wanzu in Pengshui to the ancient town of Gongtan in Youyang. Each ship accommodates 150 passengers and has two decks. The cabins are equipped with air conditioning and TVs, and there is also a small onboard shop selling local specialty goods and snacks.

Passengers aboard the “Wu River Gallery” cruise ships can immerse themselves in the “Hundred-li Gallery,” enjoying the stunning scenery of the gorge river, the ever-changing mountain forms, the towering cliffs, and humorous folk performances on board.
